I love FCKH8 I really wanted to do something with it when it came out but it got lost in the stream. Today I saw a post on osocio about an anti-anti-hate campaign and I thought I should really buy one of those shirts. So I did, but still not satisfied I took a picture and slapped their logo on it. I guess I just wanted to be a part of it.
This diagram made it's way to me through the internets and I couldn't help but clean it up a bit. What a constant stream of insights the world wide web provides. Source Charles Theurer on the GE global research site of all places.
This book has the best introduction I've ever read. I first read it after having just graduated with a bachelors in Graphic Design. I was selling shoes at Big 5 Sporting Goods and had headed off into the back-room to find the size 12, velcro-topped shoe that was perpetually on sale at Big 5. I had no intention of looking for the shoe but it was a great way to find 5 minutes alone. Reading a book as demented abnormal as Fear and Loathing was the only way I could keep my sanity in a place as dementedly normal as the Big 5, located in the Plaza 580 Shopping center across from Payless Cigarettes.
It took a surprisingly long time to settle on the word. Still not sure how I arrived at the selection, but it keeps making me laugh so it stuck. Originally I thought I would pick a really fast and slick word, like 'fast' or 'slick'. That was when I was using Helvetica Black as the typeface. I really don't like Helvetica, and I have no good reason for my disdain other than it's so obvious. I tried some common names, like Hank and Charlie, but that turned out to be a boring idea.
I thought I would contribute something to Japan, which has been on my mind a lot in the past few days. I'm not sure why I feel so connected to this. I'm a white male who grew up in Livermore. But my heart goes out to you Japan. May Fukushima cool down, and may your recovery be swift. I donated $10 to the Redcross by texting REDCROSS to 90999. George Takei says to, and that's good enough for me.
I had the pleasure of speaking with Tim Harrington's Portfolio Preparation class last Thursday at City Collage. First, I would like to thank him and his class for their attentiveness and great questions. I was pleased by the interest in my brief presentation on building an online portfolio and am glad not too many of them fell asleep. I am recapping my notes here , mainly as a resource for the students should they wish to reference them. So here they are, the three points of portfolio design.
That’s why I’m here, the Internet is a marvel. It connects more of us across a greater space and time than any other technology. It allows us to keep in touch with our friends, families and colleagues. It fosters collaboration on an unprecedented speed and scale. It gives us power over the information we digest and empowers us to participate in creating that information. I believe it defines the age we live in and that‘s why I make websites.
What-up, I'm going to Drupalcon! I had resigned to not going, but meeting everyone at the San Francisco Drupal Users Group compelled me. This is becoming more than just another CMS for me, I'm becoming more confident that I can enact the kind of change I want online with Drupal. Fanboy? Well, I did pixelate their logo. Let me know if you are going, I'd love to meet up.
This is an old Daily based on a dream that I had. Basically, I have an ingrown hero complex.
This is the first stage of the new kidconcept.com. This site will chronicle my efforts to design for good. Here I will keep projects I'm working on, techniques I've discovered, and meaningful events. This website is an active space and it's my intent to be constantly improving it. Subscribe to the rss to keep track of updates to the site and see new projects I'm working on.
I Heart Whales I seem to have a thing for whales. Sperm whales are the deepest diving mammal, going as deep as 3 kilometers for up to 90 minutes. They eat giant squid and often are found with scars from their battles.
This marks the beginning of a second era. I got mad love for the Internet and I'm feeling merry to be so close to having this site live. Many thanks to Christine for not leaving me after so many sleepless nights working on this site and others, and thanks to GARGANCHUAN for his excellent feedback, and thanks to everyone else who contributed to help tweak the site. I believe the Internet enables us to transform our lives, let's do it right.
